Certified Professional Medical Coder Short-Term Training
This intensive, short-term Certified Professional Medical Coder program will help you prepare to enter one of the fastest growing fields in healthcare. You'll gain the knowledge and experience to work as a medical coder in a healthcare setting. In this medical coding course you will learn:
- Medical coding related to the three main code books: CPT, ICD-10-CM Code Set, and HCPCS Level II
- Medical terminology and anatomy
After completion of the online modules and coding instruction you will participate in a practicum. The practicum gives you experience coding 600 actual medical records and is the equivalent to one year of professional coding experience. Successful completion of the practicum allows you to enter the workforce as a certified professional coder without having to complete an apprenticeship.
Upon course completion you are qualified to take a national certification exam to become a certified professional coder through the American Academy of Professional Coders.
This program is certified by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
Career Opportunities
Individuals completing the non-credit certificate may find employment as a billing coordinator, billing specialist, coding specialist, or patient account representative.

Cost: $4,099 — Includes books, an AAPC student membership, practice, exam, the Certified Professional Coder certification exam, and a Practicode CPC-A Practicum.
Financial assistance may be available for qualifying individuals.
Part 1: Anatomy/Medical Terminology
Date: July 18 – August 18, 2024
Format/location: Asynchronous online
Part 2: Medical Coding
Schedule: August 19 – December 12, 2024 on Monday and Thursday from 5:00–9:00pm

Requirements
- No entrance exam needed.
- A high school or equivalency diploma is required.
- Must successfully complete the medical terminology and anatomy online modules before beginning the coding portion of the class.
Materials
Books and online access codes will be provided the first day of class.
Access to the AAPC Medical Terminology and AAPC Anatomy online modules will be given on the first day of class.
